How to Measure Enquiries From Local SEO

A practical way to connect relevant Google visits, contact activity, qualified enquiries and sales without confusing clicks with leads.

Separate visibility, visits and enquiries

Search impressions mean a result was displayed. Clicks mean someone followed it. A phone or WhatsApp button tap shows contact intent. None of those automatically proves a completed conversation or a new customer.

Keep each step separate so you can identify whether the issue is being found, attracting suitable visitors, receiving enquiries or winning the work.

Build a simple baseline

  • Search Console: relevant non-brand queries, clicks and landing pages over a useful period.
  • Analytics: sessions by source, landing page and device, with internal and portal traffic separated.
  • Contact forms: starts, validation problems and accepted submissions.
  • Phone and WhatsApp: contact taps, reconciled with conversations where possible.
  • Lead log: genuine enquiry, qualified, proposal, won or lost.

Use consistent definitions

Decide what a qualified enquiry means for your business. For a pharmacy it may relate to a service appointment; for an agency it may mean a business with a suitable need and budget. Write down that definition before comparing months.

An enquiry conversion rate uses genuine enquiries divided by relevant visits for the same period. Keep contact taps separate and remove spam or duplicate submissions from the lead total.

Look at small numbers carefully

With very little qualified traffic, a week without an enquiry is not enough to conclude that the website converts badly. Compare longer periods and inspect individual journeys before changing the whole site.

When making improvements, record the date and scope. Traffic mix, seasonality and other changes can affect results, so a before-and-after comparison is evidence to interpret rather than proof that one button caused the difference.

Keep personal information out of analytics

Track event names, page paths and service categories rather than names, email addresses or message contents. Honour consent and keep private enquiry details in an appropriately protected business record.

Healthcare enquiries need particular care. Do not put symptoms, treatments or other sensitive information into marketing event labels.

Report what happened and what comes next

A useful monthly report shows work completed, search and enquiry changes, the limits of the data and the next priorities. Better rankings are useful when they bring suitable people closer to becoming customers.
