Why healthcare needs a different approach
People looking for private treatment search, compare two or three providers and book the one that answers their questions most clearly. They want to know what the treatment involves, who carries it out, what it costs and how soon they can be seen.
What you can say is also regulated. Claims about medicines and treatments fall under the ASA CAP Code, and professional bodies such as the GPhC and GDC set their own expectations. Good healthcare SEO answers patient questions fully without making promises the rules do not allow.
Pharmacies
Independent pharmacies increasingly rely on private services such as travel vaccinations, weight management, ear wax removal and the NHS Pharmacy First service. Each of those deserves a clear page and a simple way to book, and your Google Business Profile should show them too.
I work with independent pharmacies in Glasgow and Edinburgh on their websites, website care and local SEO.
Online pharmacies
Distance-selling pharmacies compete nationally, often against much larger brands. Visibility depends on a technically sound site, well-organised condition and treatment pages, and content that shows real clinical oversight.
- Technical SEO for large catalogues: crawling, internal linking, structured data and page speed.
- Condition and treatment pages that explain the consultation process and who reviews it.
- Clear prescriber and pharmacist details that support trust signals Google looks for on health topics.
- Content plans built around what people search before they buy, not just product names.
Private clinics
Travel clinics, ear care clinics, weight management services and minor procedure clinics usually win most of their patients locally. Searches are specific, such as a named vaccine or procedure plus a town, so each service needs its own useful page.
- A page for each treatment that covers suitability, the appointment, aftercare and price guidance where you publish it.
- Local SEO and Google Business Profile work for every location you actually operate from.
- Seasonal planning, for example travel vaccine demand ahead of holiday periods.
- Booking and enquiry routes that work on a phone in a couple of taps.
Aesthetics clinics
Aesthetics is crowded and trust matters more than anywhere. Patients want to see who is treating them, their qualifications and what a treatment really involves. Advertising rules are strict, particularly around prescription-only medicines, so pages need careful wording.
- Treatment pages that explain the procedure, recovery and risks honestly.
- Practitioner profiles with qualifications and memberships you supply.
- Google Business Profile, reviews and local citations for each clinic.
- Content written without naming prescription-only medicines in a promotional way.
Dental practices
For private dentistry the valuable searches are treatment-led, such as implants, aligners and cosmetic work. A practice that ranks for those and explains them well attracts patients who are ready to discuss a treatment plan.
- Treatment pages covering suitability, the process, timescales and finance options where offered.
- Dentist profiles with GDC registration details shown clearly.
- Local SEO across the areas your patients realistically travel from.
- A website that makes booking a consultation simple.
Counselling and therapy
Counsellors and therapists need a calm, reassuring website that explains their approach and makes a first enquiry feel easy. I have delivered website and local SEO work for Morning View Therapy in Glasgow.
How the work is measured
Reports cover search visibility and visits, and alongside them the enquiries, calls and bookings that arrive. Button clicks are reported separately from real enquiries so the numbers are not inflated. No patient details are sent to analytics.
Rankings and patient numbers cannot be guaranteed by anyone, and I will not promise them. What you get is a clear plan, the work done properly and honest reporting on what changed.
